Anant Ambani steps in after family raises ₹2.2 crore for toddler’s ₹9 crore treatment | Follow | Today’s news

A month-long fundraising campaign for 23-month-old Vedansh Singh took an unexpected turn after social media influencer Mayuresh Gujar claimed that Anant Ambani had offered to take care of the toddler’s medical expenses.

Anant Ambani offers help for Vedansh’s treatment

Vedansh was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare genetic disease that gradually weakens the muscles. His family tried to raise him in the neighborhood ₹9 crore for treatment, with Gujar and his team joining the effort through their Every Home Matters initiative.

According to Gujar’s account, the development took place on September 21 near Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja. He claimed that he and his team spent nearly eight hours outside the venue with placards asking for help when Ambani’s car drove by.

Gujar claimed that Ambani noticed the campaign, stopped the car and spoke to him for about five minutes. During the interview, he explained Vedansh’s condition and fundraising efforts.

Gujar then claimed that Ambani assured him that the cost of Vedansh’s treatment would be taken care of and asked the team to bring the child to their hospital. The two sides also exchanged contact information, according to his account.

The meeting marked a dramatic moment in the campaign for Gujar, who had been struggling to raise money for weeks.

In a post documenting the last day of his 30-day fundraising drive, Gujar wrote that his team had raised more than ₹1.5 crore during the campaign, taking the total raised for Vedansh to over ₹2.21 million. Other reports put the total at approx ₹2.22 million crowns.

However, the reported offer has not yet translated into a finalized treatment arrangement. Gujar’s post alone makes it clear that his team was still waiting for confirmation from Ambani and was hoping to get in touch with the team soon so that Vedansh’s treatment could begin. The Indian Express also reported that the fundraising team is awaiting confirmation.

Why Vedansh needs urgent treatment

Vedansh, from Haryana’s Sikandarpur, is the only child of Sushant and Harshita Singh, according to an earlier report in Midday. His family tried to arrange money for treatment for almost a year before Gujar joined the fundraisers.

SMA type 1 affects the motor neurons responsible for muscle control and can cause severe muscle weakness. The condition can also affect movement, swallowing and breathing. India’s Ministry of Health has described SMA as a genetic disorder affecting nerve cells in the spinal cord, with type 1 generally appearing in childhood and causing severe weakness.

The urgency of treatment is particularly important in SMA type 1. Earlier treatment can improve outcomes, and modern therapies include drugs and gene therapy, depending on the clinical circumstances and eligibility of the patient.

An earlier report from Mid-Day said that doctors treating Vedansh at AIIMS in Delhi have recommended treatment before he turns two. The family was told his condition required early intervention as his muscles could continue to deteriorate.

The fundraising campaign thus became a race against time. Gujar and his team appealed for donations at religious places, public gatherings and other crowded places across Mumbai and also used social media to reach out to more people.

Gujar’s reported meeting with Ambani gave the campaign a significant new development. However, until the promised aid is formally confirmed and treatment arrangements are finalized, the fundraising team remains focused on the next steps.
