An elderly woman died of suspected H1N1 flu at a hospital in Kochi

A 77-year-old woman is suspected to have died of H1N1 (swine flu) at a private hospital in the city on Wednesday.

The deceased, a resident of Palarivattom, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with fever and related symptoms. She died Wednesday at noon.

Health authorities said a H1N1 test conducted Tuesday at a private lab was positive. However, whether the test followed the protocols was yet to be seen.

“We need to get the details of the tests for confirmation. The health department may conduct more tests if the blood samples are available,” said a senior official.
