The shooting happened Oct. 8 when outside his family’s home on Hobkirk Drive in St. Louis there was a shootout between groups of teenagers.
According to local authorities, police were alerted by a ShotSpotter notification and several 911 calls reporting shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the teenager had been hit at least once. Despite their efforts, D’Uwan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Who shot?
Initial findings indicate that unknown individuals nearby opened fire and one of the bullets penetrated D’Uwan’s window and hit him as he sat inside. His mother and two brothers were home at the time of the shooting, unaware that their peaceful evening would turn into tragedy.
“He was minding his own business, doing nothing,” a family member told reporters. “Just sitting in my room. And now she’s gone.”
Neighbors said they saw a group of masked teenagers in the area moments before the shooting. Witnesses said the teenagers ran between houses and jumped fences after the shots were fired. “They were shooting at each other,” one resident told police. “There were no adults there – just children.
Another neighbor, Mary Glaser, recalled seeing several young people gathered in the street before chaos broke out. “They scattered immediately after the shots were fired,” she said. Reports indicate the two groups were arguing moments before the fatal shots were fired.
D’Uwan had recently finished the eighth grade and was preparing to start his freshman year of high school. His family described him as a bright and caring boy who loved the outdoors more than screens. “He was a beautiful, sweet boy. He had a bright future ahead of him,” his aunt said through tears.
Today, the once lively home is silent, his room has remained intact – the broken window serves as a painful reminder of that night. “She’s completely broken,” D’Uwan’s aunt said of his mother. “She didn’t eat or sleep.
As police continue to search for those responsible, the senseless killing of D’Uwan Morgan has reignited conversations about youth violence, gun safety and the devastating toll such incidents take on families and communities.
