On the night of August 14, a mysterious event shook the peaceful farming town of Candioti in the Argentine province of Santa Fe. Around 10:00 p.m., residents reported seeing strange white lights with purple flashes hovering over a nearby field.
Mayor Sergio Oreggioni alerted the police and a deputy inspector was sent to investigate. On the way, the farm manager told him that the animals were behaving wildly.
When the officer arrived, he saw the cows circling the light as if hypnotized. The horses panicked and crashed into the fences. The glowing object remained stationary for several minutes before disappearing without a sound or a trace.
The animals calmed down immediately, no damage was detected. The police filed a report, but the case was sealed by national security authorities two months later. The locals are confused. This silent, eerie night has now turned into a permanent mystery in Candioti.
How it became a matter of national security
After a mysterious light sighting in Candioti, the police filed a routine report. However, the story quickly spread around town.
Researcher Andrea Perez Simondini, head of CEFORA (Argentine Commission for the Study of UFO Phenomena), formally requested access to the police report.
His request was authorized under Argentina’s Access to Information Act. To everyone’s surprise, the provincial authorities rejected the request. The case was classified for “public and national security” reasons, they said, citing three national and provincial security laws.
“The information cannot be released because it falls under exemptions provided for reasons of public and national security,” authorities said.
This rare refusal turned a simple rural mystery into a state secret. The event added to a growing list of unexplained lights in north central Santa Fe, often seen near agricultural areas.
However, what makes this case stand out is the sealed document. An internal investigation is ongoing. There is also a growing belief among residents that something extraordinary happened that night.
Earlier UFO sightings in Agentina
In February 2024, an elderly couple from Argentina claimed to have captured photographs of a UFO while on vacation near San Pedro de Colalao. Rina Juarez, 76, and her husband Rene were photographing white birds when they spotted an oval object flying close to power lines before soaring higher into the sky.
Rina thought it was a black bird at first. But her husband said it looked like a flying saucer. Their grandchildren were amazed by the photos, and Rina told Jam Press, “You had to see it to believe it.”
