But after the Spirit lost 3-0, the American soccer star traveled north and entered Shelton’s box before the end of his 6-3 7-6(2) 5-7 6-2 defeat. She was wearing a shirt with Shelton’s face on it.“I knew it was going to be almost impossible to get here, but even just putting in the effort and trying is crazy,” Shelton told reporters. “She kind of showed up when I was losing, which was probably bad for her.Even Zverev mentioned Rodman’s arrival during his on-court victory speech.“Trinity, I thought you were playing today,” joked the German. “You’re a talisman… not today, but usually.Rodman and Shelton went public with their relationship in March 2025 and have since become one of the most visible young couples in American sports. They travel regularly to support each other.Rodman has attended Shelton’s tournaments, including his title runs this year in Dallas and Stuttgart, while Shelton has also attended Washington Spirit games.Rodman also watched several of Shelton’s matches during his run at Flushing Meadows, including his quarterfinal win over defending champion Carlos Alcaraz that ended at 3:33 a.m., the latest in US Open history.“We made a lot of sacrifices for each other,” Shelton said. “We traveled the world to try to support each other when possible.
