National carrier Air India is working closely with all stakeholders and has implemented several initiatives including CAT III B crew rostering, CAT III B aircraft readiness, network-wide airport readiness, technology-enabled passenger assistance services and proactive communication to minimize disruptions during the upcoming fog season.
North India, including Air India’s main hub in Delhi, regularly has low visibility due to dense fog, which may affect flight schedules across the network. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has designated December 10 to February 10, 2026 as the official fog window for this season.
“Following significant improvements in operations during the fog window last year and based on experience from previous years, Air India has further strengthened its internal SOPs and taken proactive measures to address potential fog-related delays and disruptions,” an Air India spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Air India will ensure that sufficient cabin crew trained in Low Visibility Operations (LVO) through CAT III B or specific Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) are available during this period to operate the flights safely. Emergency crews will also be available to handle any emergencies.
CAT III B certified aircraft will be deployed at key airports that are prone to fog-related disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on operations.
The spokesperson added that Air India is working with airport partners and implementing proactive measures to reduce passenger inconvenience during foggy periods.
“This will include having adequate ground support teams to assist passengers and keeping care packages with refreshments and other resources at both origin and diversion airports. Airport teams will monitor delays, issue regular notifications and proactively rebook affected passengers on alternative flights,” the spokesperson said.
Flight schedules have been aligned to minimize inconvenience to passengers on long-haul and metro-to-metro flights, including connecting flights. Air India’s Integrated Operations Center along with teams at major domestic airports will work round the clock to ensure safe and efficient flight operations.
This preparation will include real-time weather forecasting to anticipate disruptions, safety risk assessments for severe weather alerts, and proactive schedule adjustments. Specialized customer support teams have been set up, the spokeswoman added.
