Air India, Akasa hike fuel surcharge as costs rise
After IndiGo’s latest domestic fuel surcharge hike of 37-50%, other airlines have hiked or introduced fuel surcharges as sustained increases in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices increase operating costs.
Air India and Air India Express revised domestic fuel surcharges to ₹400-₹1,200 and introduced international surcharges of US$55 for West Asia/Middle East, US$135 for Europe, US$210 for Australia and US$215 for North America. The revised charges will apply to bookings made from 9 October onwards.
Akasa Air has also introduced a domestic fuel surcharge and revised charges on international routes with effect from October 9. Its domestic surcharge ranges from ₹375 to ₹1,150 based on sector length, while a ₹2,500 surcharge will apply on specified international routes.
Airlines attributed the revisions to a sustained rise in fuel prices due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
