Security was tightened in Muthuladambatti in the Karur district, where the “wall of inviolability”, built by the Thottia Naicker Community, intermediate caste, was demolished on Saturday to avoid accessing people belonging to the planned caste.
The task of demolition of the structure began on Saturday at 15:30 and ended on Sunday at 2.30 pm. Despite heavy rain, demolition work was completed in the section, which was carried out by the middle caste according to the “direction and direct supervision” of income officials. While the wall was dismantled around 21:30, it took another five hours to destroy the foundation of the structure. The whole operation was performed in the middle of strict safety.
In Muthuladampatti, where Thottia Naickers and Arunthathiyars live in separate settlements, there are restless peace of mind after the wall demolition. As a preventive measure, police guarding was published in various places Hamlets.
Police superintendent Josh K. Thangaiah said that no undesirable incident has been reported in Muthuladambatti. However, the clock security will be on the spot until other orders. Police officers were asked to watch the situation carefully. Normal would be renewed soon.
He said that with regard to the sensitive nature of the problem, members of both groups in Muthuladampatti were warned not to destroy the situation. Members who pushed the wall demolition were advised not to celebrate its dismantling in any way.
While he said it was a teamwork, Mr. Thangaiah said the operation was completed without any problems. A series of direct and indirect conversations took place by bringing the leaders of both castes on the table. They (Thottia Naickers) understood the “gravity of the situation” and agreed to dismantle themselves without waiting for the officials to tear the walls.
