After a Commonwealth Games gold hat-trick, Mirabai Chanu is targeting an Asian Games medal
Fresh from completing a historic hat-trick of Commonwealth Games gold medals, Mirabai Chanu has set her sights on the one honor still missing from her glittering career, an Asian Games medal.
In an exclusive interview with Sports Today, Nikhil Naz, the Olympic silver medalist reflected on the emotions behind her latest triumph and said that nothing compares to the pride of representing India and watching the national flag being raised as the national anthem is played. Mirabai revealed that the tears on the podium were the culmination of years of sacrifice, injury setbacks and relentless hard work.
She also spoke about the discipline required to stay on top and joked that even though she loves pizza, she puts cravings aside by reminding herself that the reward can wait until she wins medals for India. Looking ahead, the 31-year-old said she is preparing to lift heavier weights to challenge Asia’s best, while encouraging young girls to dream big, work hard and believe no goal is beyond their reach.
