The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday found several irregularities during a surprise inspection at the transport department office at Korutla in Jagtial district.
ACB Karimnagar Range conducted a surprise inspection and examined the office records, financial transactions, challans, pending applications and overall functioning of the office during the raid.
According to the ACB, a traffic constable, N. Girish Kumar, was found to be conducting driving tests and checking vehicle registrations in the absence of a motor vehicle inspector (MVI).
The inspection also revealed that employees allegedly collected excessive sums from the public through agents in exchange for extending official favors. The ACB said agents had free access to the office and dealt directly with concerned Regional Transport Authority (RTA) staff until the applications submitted by members of the public were completed.
The ACB also pointed to poor maintenance of records and registers and inadequate supervision of subordinate staff in relation to their assigned duties. The ACB further said that there were no signboards on the track and added that the testing facility did not meet the standards prescribed by the transport department.
