Abhishek Sharma extended India’s dominance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) with a 47-ball hundred for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday. It was Abhishek’s second IPL hundred for the franchise after scoring his maiden against Punjab Kings at this venue in IPL 2025.
With this ton, Abhishek became the third Indian to score a hundred in IPL 2026 after his Indian national teammates Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings respectively. South African recruit Quinton de Kock from Mumbai Indians also scored one. Sent in to bat first, Abhishek and Travis Head got off to a slow start initially.
However, the lethal duo started to open their arms from the third and sent every bowler all over the park. In fact, the left-handed Indian opener needed just 25 balls to reach his fifty. He completed his second in just 22 balls, bringing him level with Virat Kohli on nine T20 sets.
Abhishek’s ninth T20 hundred came in his 184th innings, the third fastest behind only West Indies’ Chris Gayle’s 124 and Pakistan’s Sahibzad Farhan’s 160. The first hundred in IPL 2026 came from Samson as he smashed an unbeaten 115 against Delhi Capitals.
De Kock scored the second – 112 not out against Punjab, but in a losing encounter. The third came from another Mumbai Indians batsman Tilak who scored a match winning 101 not out against Gujarat Titans.
Abhishek Sharma has many records
In the end, Abhishek finished on 135 not out in 68 balls, studded with 10 fours and as many sixes. With this score, the Indian southpaw became the batsman with the most 130 runs in T20 cricket. Abhishek now had four scores above 130 in the shortest format, followed by Australia’s Aaron Finch and Gayle, both with three.
It is also the second time Abhishek has smashed 10 sixes in an innings in the IPL and only the second after Gayle’s four. Overall, Gayle holds the record for 10 plus sixes in a T20 innings, followed by West Indies’ Abhishek (five) and Evin Lewis and Indian Shreyas Iyer (both with four each).
