A sea of youth in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park to celebrate Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation

A massive crowd of youth waving the national flag and holding constitution posters gathered at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Sunday (July 26, 2026) to celebrate the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
Despite light rain since morning, youths in raincoats and under umbrellas carried posters of BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, along with creative social media memes that went viral during the nationwide Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests.
The youth, mostly college students, used to go to Shivaji Park from Dadar station from different parts of the city and neighboring areas.
Mr Pradhan resigned on Saturday (July 25), after which the Cockroach Janta Party called off its 36-day agitation that had agitated thousands over exam irregularities and the NEET paper leak.
A group of rally participants said they had come to Shivaji Park to show solidarity with the protesters. “It’s a victory for democracy,” they said.
Another student said she had come to pay tribute to the “21 NEET aspirants” who died after the NEET-UG paper leak.
One young boy said that one resignation was not enough and that a complete overhaul of the education system was needed. “The minister resigned but the government does not want to give us credit for our victory,” he said.
Earlier, protests were held in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, Dadar and Chembur in recent days to protest the July 22 police action against students in Delhi.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to support CJP.

Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray visited Shivaji Park a few days ago and urged students to participate in the July 26 protest.
After Mr Pradhan stepped down on Saturday (July 26, 2026), the Thackerays said the ‘Tiranga’ rally would go ahead as planned on Sunday (July 26, 2026) to thank the country’s youth.
A joint ‘Tiranga’ march is organized by Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS in support of students and supporters of Cockroach Janta Party.
