Soon two important policies – the revised state policy of age and updated transgender politics – said the Minister of Social Justice R. Binda.
Kerala was one of the first states to introduce the policy for the elderly. The 2006 age policy was later reviewed and a new policy was published in 2013. This is now updated.
“The policy of old age is in the final stages. We can publish it within one month,” Dr. Bindu Hindu in an interview.
The Minister said that the state also plans to provide domestic care to all old people. “We will provide caregivers to every seniors with older.
Dr. Bindu said that the main Minister Pinarayi Vijayan convened a meeting of youth clubs and volunteer organizations working in the Social Justice sector. They would participate in the Domiciliary Care Project project.
“We will collect details of all volunteers and create their pool. These volunteers will take responsibility for the care of the elderly if their families are abandoned,” she said.
The older Commission of Kerala, she said, could arise in a month.
Recently, the State Assembly approved a bill on the older Commission of Keral, which made Kerala the first state to do so. “We must also create rules on the law,” Dr. Bindu.
According to surveys, older people would account for 25% of the state population by 2030. The protective mechanism was necessary for them because they faced various atrocities. Many of them also had a rich life and a professional experience collected over the years. Although eagerly contribute to their abilities, they felt abandoned, their best years behind them, which led to disillusionment and frustration.
There was a dualistic approach to establish an older commission with a quasi of judicial powers, the Minister said. At first, this would speed up protection, because the committee could intervene if a crime against age was committed and visited by disabled people. It was not enough for the maintenance and well -being of parents and senior citizens to remain on paper. She had to be put into action, she said.
“At the same time, the commission will use the sources of the elders,” the minister said.
To this end, the ministry planned to create a skill bank of older ones. This would give them room for presenting their affinit, abilities and aspirations.
Older people would be associated with local horns-level activities-would participate in everyday activities of local authorities, planning process and contributing to projects such as waste management or strengthening skills in which they had experience, she said.
Their abilities can also be used in the campaign of digital literacy. Older people who are familiar with the use of computers, mobile phones and the Internet could train other older people to use them in everyday life and connect with others.
In addition to enforcing the law, the strengthening of intergenerational ties was the need for an hour, said Dr. Bindu. “We must teach our younger generation to behave properly with elderly. It must be considered as assets that can be used effectively for the welfare of society,” she added.
Transgender politics
The government was also going to complete Transgender policy. Kerala was the first state to introduce a transgender policy in 2015. It would also work in two months, said Dr. Bindu.
Based on the demand for accommodation for Transgender, the Minister said two brief stays, one of whom, each, each in Thiruvananthapurama and Kochi.
“This year we plan to implement a housing system for them. If they have land, we will help them build a house. From next year the money will be provided to those who do not have the ground to buy it,” she said.
The Minister said the government plans to strengthen the transgender clinic at the Government Medical University Hospital in Kottayam. “We want to send doctors abroad or to Bengalur to learn more about protocols such as WPATH, we have created a number of instructions for assignment of sex and also provide financial assistance,” she added.
