A patient injured after a ceiling section collapsed at Guntur GGH

A woman sustained minor injuries after a portion of the ceiling reportedly collapsed at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur on Wednesday, raising concerns among patients and their attendants. The incident reportedly took place near Ward 302 in the General Surgery Department of the hospital.

The hospital authorities said that the injured patient was given immediate medical attention and is under observation.

Guntur GGH Superintendent Dr. SSV Ramana said the incident occurred in the general surgery ward when a ceiling slab suddenly fell on a patient. He specified that the affected structure was not part of the old building and that the patient suffered minor injuries.

According to Dr. Ramany’s ceiling arrangement was installed recently. A preliminary assessment indicated that water leakage and rat infestation had damaged a particular ceiling slab, leading to its collapse.

After the incident, Guntur Collector CM Saikanth Varma directed the officials to carry out repairs to the entire roof, prevent rats from entering the ceiling area and address the water leakage issues so that such incidents do not recur.
