The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a program to implement standardized lane markings, curb painting and scientific road markings in all 123 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state.
All ULBs have been instructed to ensure standardized center and side lane markings; marginal lines; stop lines and pedestrian crossings; black and yellow curb painting; mandatory, warning and informative traffic signs; improving safety around schools, hospitals, intersections and market areas; removal of minor road defects before marking works.
In the first phase, ULB will focus on arterial roads, major intersections, approaches to schools and hospitals, commercial corridors and other high-traffic areas.
On the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who emphasized that all urban roads in the state should reflect modern standards of urban mobility with visible traffic discipline, Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD) S. Suresh Kumar issued instructions to the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA) and the Chief Engineer of the Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department to implement the scheme.
The initiative, which aims to reduce traffic confusion, improve pedestrian visibility and ensure safer urban mobility systems, should comply with IRC:35, IRC:67 and IRC:SP:118-2018, Mr. Suresh Kumar said.
Mr. Suresh Kumar said that ‘before’ and ‘after’ photographs will be compulsorily captured for each stretch of road. The government will continuously monitor the progress of implementation, he added.
