Senior Civil Judge and Member-Secretary District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Raichur HA Sathwik emphasized the need to prevent the use of plastic in daily work to protect the environment and said that every consumer has the right to buy good and quality goods.
He was inaugurating the World Consumer Day 2026 program at the Karnataka State Government Employees Auditorium in Raichur on Monday.
Expressing concern over the issue of plastic menace, the judge said that used plastics are being dumped in the open at various places in the city. The members of the department and the general public should join hands to avoid harassment of plastics.
Traders should be concerned about the health of consumers before preparing food in used and low-quality oil, he advised.
District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum chairman KV Surendra Babu said traders should not demand more money from the consumer than the actual price of any product.
The consumer has the right to ask whether the goods he has purchased have defects, and he can also file a lawsuit if he is sold goods with an expired shelf life.
District Consumer Dispute Redressing Forum member Prabhudev Patil said that it is the duty of every shopkeeper to sell goods of good quality and at reasonable prices as consumers have the right to buy healthy and safe goods.
Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Nazeer Ahmed said there was no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders. However, people are reserving cylinders at a high rate out of panic over the war situation in the Persian Gulf region, he said.
