A major fire broke out at a plastic recycling plant in Kasaragod, Kerala; no one hurt

A major fire broke out at a plastic recycling factory in the Chattanchal Industrial Park near Kasaragod in Kerala early Friday morning, destroying the factory’s storage facilities.

Fire and rescue services from Kasaragod, Kuttikol and Kanhangad brought the fire under control. There were no injuries as no workers were present at the time of the fire.

The fire was reported at around five o’clock in the morning in a factory where plastic waste is sorted for the production of plastic granules. Because the factory stores a large amount of plastic, thick smoke engulfed the area after the fire broke out.

The GAIL gas pipeline runs under the factory premises at a depth of about two meters. After the fire was extinguished, officials inspected the area above the underground pipe and confirmed that it was not affected by the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Authorities are continuing to evaluate the incident.
