A hedge against wild boars claims the life of a farmer near Kuppam in Chittoor

A 40-year-old farmer was electrocuted at Jogyanur village in Gudupalle mandal near Kuppam in Chittoor district on Sunday (26 July 2026) night after he came in contact with an illegally installed electric fence.

The deceased has been identified as Venkatesh. According to the police, he was returning home when he accidentally touched a fence erected in a neighboring field and died on the spot.

According to a preliminary investigation, the fence was watered to prevent wild boar attacks on the crops. Forest officials said they have repeatedly warned farmers in border villages against using live wires, citing serious safety risks and violation of wildlife protection norms. Such fences are said to be common in forested villages in Palamaner and Kuppam districts bordering Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
