
The National Film decision to award two awards, including the Best director Sudipto Dream, invited a storm of critics in Kerala for The Keral Story.

Social media platforms were Apuzz with contributions criticizing the National Film Award for awarding the film. Before the film two years ago, various organizations from Keraly moved to the Supreme Court and demanded a ban. Although the Supreme Court and High Court in Kerala refused to stay in the film, the filmmakers had to remove the trailer for their claim to “32,000 women” from Keraral, who joined the IS. They also changed the trailer to say that it was a “compilation of real stories of three young girls”. They also added a statement to the film that it was a fiction.
The decision left the democratic front and the opposition united democratic front was connected in their opposition to the film, and most of the civil society also called it an attempt to perish the state. In Kerala, only Bharatiya Janata’s party approved openly.

The film also led to a rush of posts and videos of social media entitled “The Real Kerala Story”, which depicted stories about municipal friendship from the state. Documentary filmmaker Sana Kummil made the documentary The Unknown Stories of Keral, depicting six stories of municipal harmony from different corners of Keraral.
