Despite the Union government “denying dues to Tamil Nadu”, Chief Minister MK Stalin is spending huge sums on all schemes so as not to give up on the people of the state, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu said on Sunday.
After performing the Bhoomi puja on the road over the bridge in Tiruthangal, he told the mediators and said that the state had been raising its financial demands but in vain. “We are paying (a huge amount of funds) to the Center in GST. But the Center is not transferring adequate funds to Tamil Nadu. As the (Tamil Nadu) Finance Minister, I have visited Delhi many times for funds. But the authorized funds are being denied (by the Centre),” he said.
But the Chief Minister is allocating huge funds for infrastructure development, he said, adding that adequate funds have been allocated for Mahalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, free bus travel for women, free breakfast for school children and monthly assistance and free laptops for college students.
The DMK has promised to fulfill the long-pending demand for two flyovers at Sivakasi and Tiruthangal. “People raised doubts about our promise on the Sivakasi bridge road and were pessimistic about its timely completion. But we completed it much earlier than planned,” said Mr. Thennarasu. Apart from allocating ₹45.6 crore for the Tiruthangalo bridge road, the chief minister has allocated funds for a four-way road between Sivakasi and Virudhunagar and an outer ring road for Sivakasi, he added.
