The Indian Election Commission (ECI) on Thursday (July 31, 2025) stated that electronic voting machines (EVMS) were “manipulative” for the elections after completing “check and verification” (C&V).
After receiving the C&V EVM – voting units, control units and voter -verified paper audit trail (VVPP) – from 10 candidates who attacked the Mahashrah Assembly in November 2024.
“CEC performed exercises across the 10 election districts of the Assembly and found that in all cases the machines passed diagnostic tests and in the number of slides of insertion there was no disagreement.
This follows a series of accusations of the opposition of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) inconsistencies in the EVMS and did not match the numbers in EVM and insert slipping in the elections to the Maharashtra assembly.
ECI stressed that the C&V was carried out in the presence of eight candidates, losing candidates and representatives of the candidates who attacked.
ECI stressed that the C&V was successfully performed on 48 voting units, 31 control units and 31 VVPATS 10 constituencies. This included diagnostic tests to verify the burned memory/microcontroller in Kupri-Pachpakhadi and Thane in the Thane district; Khadakwasla in the PUNE district; Majalgaon in the Beed district; Arni in yavatmal; Yevla in the Nashik district; Chandgad and Kolhapur North in the district of Kolhapur; and Panvel and Alibaug in the Raigad district.
“After the diagnostic test, authorized engineers from Electronics Corporation of India Limited certified that all machines have passed diagnostic tests. Then a false survey was carried out on the machines according to requests received from the candidates.
