The British government is investigating how to provide a financial rescue rope for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) after a cyber attack forced the automotive manufacturers to stop production.
The shutdown, which was extended to October, had a significant financial impact. JLR reportedly loses at least £ 50 million ($ 68 million) each week.
The luxury car manufacturer owned by Indian Tata Motors has three factories in Britain, which together produce 1,000 cars a day. The shutdown caused many of its 33,000 employees to stay at home, the BBC reported.
Potential government support
British Minister of Business Peter Kyle and Minister of Industry Chris McDonald visited JLR on Tuesday. They discussed the situation with the CEO of Adrian Mardell and discussed the possible ways of restarting production and ensuring the long -term health of the supplier chain.
“We have two priorities-we help Jaguar Land Rover get back and run and long-term health chain health,” McDonald said.
Ministers say that they will consider the scheme to purchase components directly from the suppliers, allowing them to survive as long as JLR has renewed production, the BBC report said.
The BBC said that another possible possibility is to offer suppliers to the provision of loans supported by the government, although he added that this idea is not popular with suppliers.
Asked about the BBC report on Tuesday, the previous statement in which Minister Kyle said, “We do everything we do to minimize the impact of this incident.”
