Suryakumar Yadav (PTI Photo/Kunal Patil) NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to meet to discuss Suryakumar Yadav’s future in the T20I team. TOI understands there is a strong possibility that the current T20 captain, who led the team to a successful T20 title defense in March, may not be asked to attend the next selection meeting for the white-ball tour of Ireland and England later this month. It is learned that the selection meeting will be held in either Chandigarh or Mumbai around the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan from June 6. The matter will be discussed on the sidelines of the BCCI Supreme Council meeting on Thursday. May 31st TOI stated that Surya was left out of the long list of probables for this year’s Asian Games as the selectors wanted to try out new captaincy options as they prepare a succession plan.Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson are found to be the contenders. There has also been a thought that vice-captain Axar Patel may take charge temporarily and let Iyer and Varma settle in the team. Shubman Gill is asked to focus on Test and ODI cricket at the moment.Surya has endured a prolonged slump in form in international cricket since the 2024 FIFA T20 World Cup. He has looked to regain his form in this IPL as well. It will be very difficult for the selectors to bet on the 35-year-old for the 2028 LA Olympics and the next T20 World Cup in 2028.
