However, both hopes ended in the powerplay as Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s new attack struck early in Ahmedabad. Gill managed just 10 before falling to Josh Hazlewood, while Sudharsan was dismissed for 12 by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Their early exits ensured that Sooryavanshi ended the season as the top run-scorer in IPL 2026, capping off one of the most remarkable campaigns the tournament has ever seen. At just 15, the Rajasthan Royals sensation dominated the season from start to finish. Sooryavanshi amassed 776 runs in 16 innings at a staggering average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 237.31, figures rarely seen in the history of the competition. His season was built on unrelenting aggression. Sooryavanshi smashed 135 boundaries from just 327 balls he faced, including a record 72 sixes. He also registered six scores of 50 or more, highlighted by a breathtaking 36-ball century. The teenager broke several IPL records along the way. His 72 sixes surpassed the previous record of 59 set by Chris Gayle in 2012. More impressively, Sooryavanshi hit a six every 4.31 deliveries compared to Gayle’s rate of one per 7.73 balls during his glorious season. He also became the youngest batsman and fastest bowler to reach 1000 IPL runs. The milestone came during Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans when Sooryavanshi reached the milestone in just 440 deliveries, beating Andre Russell’s previous record by 105 balls. Perhaps the most striking statistic from his season was his dominance in the power play. Of his 776 runs, a staggering 521 of them came in the first six overs, the highest ever scored by a batsman at that stage in a single IPL season.
