Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (May 31, 2026) urged people to stay hydrated in view of rising temperatures across the country.

In his monthly radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat, he said that people should take extra care while stepping out in the sun.

“With temperatures rising across much of the country, it’s important to take extra precautions. Stay hydrated. If you need to go out in the sun, do so with caution and take the necessary precautions,” he said.

“Drink water. Do not forget the guidelines issued by various government departments in this regard either,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) also recently urged citizens to take maximum precautions as the country witnesses rising temperatures, saying staying hydrated is crucial during such harsh weather.

Mr. Modi also referred to the king of fruits and said that there is hardly a home where mangoes are not talked about during the summer season.

He noted that each region has its own mango and its own aroma.

“Hapus or alphonso from Maharashtra, Kesar from Gujarat – these are the lifeblood of ‘aamras’; Dussehri from Uttar Pradesh and Langra from Kashi. There are mangoes from Bihar whose aroma can be felt from afar. Chausa, Malda – memories of people are associated with each name,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that if one goes to South India, people will find other varieties like Banganapalli, Totapuri, Neelam, Malgova; in Bengal is Himsagar; Suvarnarekha of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

“In other words, the place is changing, as is the shape, color and taste of the mango… This journey of the mango now extends from the villages to the global market,” he said.

PM Modi talks to sprinters Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur

Mr Modi started his Mann Ki Baat radio program with the recent achievements of Indian athletes in athletics and said the national record in the 100m race was broken three times in two days at the 29th Senior National Athletics Federations 2026 in Ranchi.

Mr. Modi spoke to Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur who talked about their practice, friendship and also healthy competition.

Gurindervir Singh said they were friends and helped each other in training, but during the race they are competitors.

Gurindervir Singh, who is in the Indian Navy, claimed to be the country’s fastest sprinter and set a new national record by completing the 100m race in 10.09 seconds.

The athlete also said that when his mother used to discourage him from watching TV as a child and told him to focus on his studies, he told her that he would watch him on TV one day.

“I feel very happy today when they watch me on TV,” said Gurindervir Singh.

The 25-year-old’s remarkable effort broke a national record and secured qualification for both the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.

Gurindervir’s record run capped a dramatic day in Ranchi. He had earlier clocked 10.17 seconds in the semi-final to briefly set a new national mark, only to be surpassed moments later by fellow sprinter Animesh Kujur with a 10.15 second effort.

However, in the final, Gurindervir emphatically claimed the record with his historic time of 10.09s as both he and Animesh booked their places for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated the sprinter after he became the first Indian to clock sub-10.10 seconds in the men’s 100m.

“10.09 seconds! Gurindervir Singh, you have rewritten history. The entire nation is incredibly proud of you!” Mr. Mandaviya said in a post on X.
