Watch: Nithin Kamath tries to decode ‘rizz’, ‘simp’ and ‘kill’ in viral Gen Z slang quiz; score 1 out of 4 | Today’s news

Most workplace conversations revolve around goals, meetings, and deadlines. But at Zerodha, one casual conversation between CEO Nithin Kamath and an employee turned into a crash course in Gen Z internet slang — and it seems the internet can’t get enough of it.

A video shared by Gowri Bhat Gandotra, who works at Rainmatter by Zerodha, went viral on social media after it showed Kamath being tested on some of the most commonly used expressions on the internet. The light-hearted interaction gave viewers a glimpse of the entrepreneur outside the world of business and finance as he tried to decode terms that have become second nature to younger social media users.

“Boomer Boss” or Gen X?

The interview begins with a discussion of age and generations.

Gowri asks Kamath if he is a millennial. In response to his age, he says, “I’m 46.”

She then jokingly refers to him as a “boomer boss” before quickly correcting herself and identifying him as a member of Generation X.

This playful exchange sets the stage for what becomes an impromptu Gen Z slang challenge.

First: What does “Rizz” mean?

Gowri’s first question focuses on a term that is becoming increasingly popular on social media platforms.

“What does rizz mean? Like this person has a lot of rizz,” he asks.

Kamath doesn’t seem familiar with the term.

“I don’t know. What is it?” he answers

Gowri then explains that “rizz” is short for “charisma”.

The answer leaves Kamath amused as the quiz moves to the next term.

Kamath’s Guess about ‘Simp’

The second question is equally challenging.

When Gowri asks him about the meaning of the word “simp”, Kamath guesses.

“I think it’s a slang word for simple,” he says.

His answer is quickly corrected.

“You should go with the times… it’s like a guy sleeping after a girl,” Gowri replies.

The term is generally used online to describe someone who shows excessive admiration, affection, or attention to another person, often in hopes of gaining their approval or affection.

Trying to understand ‘Clock It’

The next phrase leaves Kamath even more confused.

Gowri introduces the term ‘clock it’ and performs the gesture commonly associated with it on social media.

The phrase is often used online to indicate that someone has noticed an important detail, recognized a hidden meaning, or agreed with a sharp observation.

Despite the explanation and the accompanying gesture, Kamath still seems unsure of the exact context of its use.

Finally the correct answer

The final round brings some redemption.

Gowri asks Kamath about the meaning of ‘kill’, another term widely used on social media.

This time he got it right.

This word is commonly used to praise someone for doing something exceptionally well or looking particularly impressive.

Acknowledging his performance, Gowri told him, “You got 1 out of 4, so not bad.”

Social media loves an exchange

After being posted online, the clip quickly went viral, with users praising Kamath’s humor and willingness to participate.

Many viewers said they enjoyed seeing a more relaxed and playful side of the businessman.

One user wrote: “This is so cool. Make him do more.”

Another commented, “Nithin is the most humble and down-to-earth person in his character.

Several users admitted that they were surprised by how fun they found the interaction.

“I didn’t know Nithin was so funny,” wrote one user.

“He always has a calming aura about him. It’s so nice to see him in videos. Pleaseeee he does this more often,” commented another.

A fifth user jokingly commented, “Brother is traumatized.”
