With the racing activities organized by the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) expected to be shifted to Kunigal, the state government on Thursday approved a 30-year lease of four acres at the present premises at High Grounds to the BTC.

The four-acre site currently houses club facilities and includes a historic structure. While BTC agreed to move racing activities to Kunigal Stud, it sought six acres to continue its club activities and off-course betting centre. However, the government agreed to provide four acres.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar Khandre told reporters after the Cabinet meeting that the Cabinet had approved the lease proposal. “The club was also looking for some time to relocate racing activities to Kunigal,” he said.

The development follows the state government’s earlier decision not to extend BTC’s lease and offered land for the construction of a racetrack at Kunigal Stud. After initial reluctance, BTC agreed to move club operations to Kunigal, but sought six acres to continue club activities and an off-course betting center in the current premises.

Session from December 2

Mr. Khandre also announced that the winter session in Belagavi, scheduled to be held from November 30 to December 11, has been rescheduled to begin on December 2.
