An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ARSI) attached to the CAR Western Squad was immediately suspended following allegations of misconduct when he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol during a bandobast duty under the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station.

The suspended officer has been identified as Gopal B. Rathod.

According to sources, members of the public objected to his behavior after noticing that he was allegedly drunk. A heated argument ensued which escalated when some people allegedly roughed him up before handing him over to Hoysala patrolling police personnel.

The public also demanded that the officer submit to a breathalyzer test to determine if he was drunk on duty.

One of the bystanders recorded the incident on a mobile phone and shared the video on social media, tagging the Home Minister and the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and demanding action against the police officer.

The video and the incident reportedly caused embarrassment among senior police officials who directed the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to conduct an inquiry and initiate strict action.

Following the incident, Gopal B. Rathod was immediately suspended pending an investigation by the department.
