Members of the Shivamogga Advocates Association staged a protest outside the deputy commissioner’s office on Tuesday (November 3), condemning the recent violent attacks on advocates.
Protesters raised slogans against the murders of advocates Manjunath and Sriram in Bengaluru and the attack on advocate Venkataraman Kannaki in Gowribidanur. They said lawyers are an integral part of the justice system and deserve adequate security to perform their duties.
The advocates demanded that the state government should strengthen the Advocates Protection Act and ensure that those who commit crimes against advocates are punished according to law. Advocates across the state staged similar protests calling for tougher laws to protect the profession.
Association president GR Raghavendra, senior advocate Basappa Gowda, officials including KP Sripala and others were present.
