BJP leader questions Vijay’s silence on Mekedatu dam issue

BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Sunday questioned Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s alleged “silence” on the Karnataka government’s efforts to build a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedat.

Referring to Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s statement that efforts were being made to acquire land for Mekedatu Dam, Mr. Nagenthran criticized both the Karnataka government’s actions and the Vijay-led TVK government’s silence on the matter.

“Karnataka is ruled by Congress which is an ally of TVK. Despite the directive of Cauvery Water Management Authority (Karnataka) it has not released water to Tamil Nadu… it intends to destroy the livelihood of farmers in Tamil Nadu. Why is Mr. Vijay not against Congress in Karnataka?” he asked.
