He became the country’s most successful bowler in terms of wickets taken and runs scored in a single international innings. Before Moondro’s achievement, the record for Ireland’s top bowling figure was Josh Little, who took six wickets for 36 runs in 10 overs against Zimbabwe in Harare on 15 December 2023.Moondra bettered these numbers by conceding 10 fewer runs while taking the same number of wickets. The Indian-origin fast bowler, who made his international debut for Ireland earlier this year in a T20I against India, is now the third Irish player to take six wickets in ODIs and the fifth to do so in international cricket.Andy McBrine remains the only Irish bowler to take more than one six-wicket haul in ODIs.
Second best bowling figure against Namibia
Moondr’s performance is also the second best bowling performance against Namibia in international cricket.Australia’s Glenn McGrath holds the top spot after taking seven wickets for 15 runs in seven overs during the 2003 ODI World Cup match against Namibia in Potchefstroom.Meanwhile, Ireland’s win helped the team level the five-match ODI series at 2-2. The two sides will now meet in the decisive fifth ODI in Windhoek on Sunday 1 November.
