BJP slams Congress over Delhi Chalo, calling it an attack on democracy
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress leadership, calling Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s proposed Delhi Chalo scheduled for Sunday a “direct attack on democracy” and an attempt to foment anarchy across the country.
BJP National Vice President and Rajya Sabha MP M. Nagaraju told a press conference in Yadgir that Mr. Gandhi was trying to destabilize the democratically elected government at the Center by spreading false narratives about the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process of the Election Commission and seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Prof. Nagaraju further targeted activists associated with the foreign organization Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and accused them of conspiring against the nation by misleading the youth about the effort to revise the voter list.
He said that the Congress is extending support to these entities purely to gain political advantage in the upcoming 2027 assembly elections in four states.
The Rajya Sabha member continued his criticism, noting that Mr. Gandhi often travels abroad to ally with anti-India and left-wing factions, only to return and create unrest at home.
He noted that the Congress repeatedly blames the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and election review processes whenever it faces electoral defeat. He added that the party’s poor performance in recent Council elections reflected its steadily declining public support.
In contrast, Prof. Nagaraju highlighted the statement of Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi who recently confirmed that the SIR exercise in the state was completed smoothly and efficiently.
The BJP leader advised Mr Gandhi to inquire about the SIR from his own party minister regarding the legitimacy and transparency of the procedure.
Prof. Hitting out at Supreme Court advocate Prashant Bhushan over his recent remarks regarding “regime change”, Nagaraju said governments in a democracy are changed through the mandate of the people at the ballot box and not through street agitation.
Nationwide campaign
Prof. Outlining the party’s counter-strategy, Nagaraju announced that the BJP has launched a two-phase statewide campaign to expose the Congress narrative.
The first phase will last until November 5, while the second phase will run from November 11 to November 31.
As part of this event, the party will conduct interactive sessions with students to inform them about the political motives of Mr. Gandhi and the Congress.
He also questioned Mr. Gandhi’s silence on irregularities in the recruitment processes conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) while criticizing NEET.
Attacking the state administration, the BJP leader said the DK Shivakumar-led Congress government had failed on all fronts and was unable to fund its promised guarantee schemes.
He pointed out that Mr. Shivakumar had expressed his inability to resolve the grievances of the sugarcane growers.
Prof. Nagaraju said the BJP, which currently rules 21 states, remains firmly focused on returning to power in Karnataka.
BJP district president Basavaraj Veebhutihalli, Lalita Anpur, Rachanagouda Mudnal, Mahesh Reddy Mudnal, Siddanagouda Kadamnor, Devendra Nath Nad, Nagarathna Kuppi, Hanumanth Itagi and Venkatareddy Abbetumkur were present.

Rough attack
Meanwhile, when former minister and BJP leader B. Sriramula attacked Mr. Gandhi over his call for Delhi Chalo at Ramlila Maidan, he accused the Congress of trying to destabilize the democratically elected government for political gains.
At a press conference in Yadgir, Mr. Sriramulu defended the Election Commission of India (ECI) for conducting a special intensive review (SIR) of voter rolls and attacked Mr. Gandhi for opposing the process.
“Mr Gandhi is supporting political entities for his own political survival. He has called upon the public to join the rally demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar with alleged irregularities in the SIR. However, the ECI is conducting this exercise strictly to ensure an accurate and systematic electoral roll across the country after duplicate entries were identified in several states,” Mr Sriramu said.
He further said that the Congress and its alliance partners, unable to accept the massive mandate given by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to the people of the country, are trying to topple the central government through unauthorized protests.
Taking aim at the state government, the former minister slammed Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over agriculture issues, saying they were not interested in sugarcane growers demanding fair prices and farmers reeling under severe drought conditions across the state.
Referring to the performance of the Congress in the recent Council elections, Mr. Sriramulu observed that the ruling party in the state had failed to do anything in the Council elections and predicted that its poor performance was likely to continue in the future.
