Pakistan’s Haris Rauf fined by ICC after Will Jacks clash; suspension is at risk

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and given a demerit point following his altercation with England all-rounder Will Jacks during the ODI in Lahore on Sunday.

The sentence will take Rauf’s total to five demerit points over 24 months, approaching a suspension. He was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, a charge of conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.

The incident took place at the end of the 46th over of Pakistan’s innings. Rauf, batting at the non-striker’s end, appealed to Wide before falling out with Jacks. He picked up his bat during the exchange and continued the altercation despite a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid. Rauf then swept past the umpire as he walked towards the England all-rounder.

Rauf was charged under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The latest offense was his third offense in 24 months.

According to ICC rules, a player who accumulates four or more points for a loss in a 24-month period will receive points for suspension. Two suspension points result in a ban of one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is, depending on the format in which the player appears next.

England were also fined 15 per cent of their match fee after being found three overs below the required rate, after taking time-outs into account. Under ICC rules, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each when their team falls short.

Rauf and England captain Harry Brook admitted their wrongdoing and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. No formal hearings were required.

The action followed a dramatic conclusion to Sunday’s ODI, which saw Pakistan beat England by one wicket to reach the final of the tri-series. Chasing 243, Pakistan were reduced to 154 for nine before Shadab Khan and Rauf put together an unbeaten 89 for the last wicket.

Shadab scored an unbeaten century while Rauf hit the winning run to seal victory with 17 balls to spare. Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the final on October 31.
