Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president BK Hariprasad said the party would conduct a comprehensive review of its organizational and political failings after losing all four Legislative Council Constituencies to Graduates and Teachers.

In a post on X, Mr. Hariprasad said the Congress was confident of winning all the four seats, but the results were against his expectations. According to him, the party has accepted the verdict and will use it as an opportunity for introspection.

We were confident that the Congress candidates would win the elections in all the four Legislative Council constituencies. But the election result is against our expectations. We have taken this result not only as an electoral setback but as an opportunity for serious introspection on the part of the Congress party. We will take a comprehensive look at the political and organizational reasons behind the defeat. Teachers and graduates are a conscious part of society and their political attitudes and expectations are particularly important. We seriously considered that we would not be able to win the trust of such voters in this election. We will look at the shortcomings in understanding their expectations, convince them of the party’s position and maintain constant contact with them. We also look at how well the government has responded to questions about teacher and graduate expectations, job insecurity, the challenges of the education system and their career interests. We will identify and correct deficiencies in effectively conveying pro-people programs and party positions to voters. This result does not weaken the ideological and populist commitment of the Congress party. Instead, she has increased responsibility for streamlining our organizational performance, public relations and policy strategies. We respectfully accept the voters’ verdict. I would like to express my gratitude to the leaders, officials and workers who worked hard for the party candidates in the elections. We will sincerely strive to win the trust of teachers, graduates and ordinary people by comprehensively reviewing the election results at all levels of the party and further strengthening the organization. @INCKarnataka

The party to review the deficiencies

Describing graduates and teachers as an “enlightened segment of the electorate”, he said the party would examine why it had failed to gain their trust and identify shortcomings in understanding their expectations, communicating its positions and maintaining sustained engagement with them.

The review would also examine the state government’s response to concerns raised by teachers and graduates, including job insecurity, problems in the education system and issues affecting their professional interests.

Mr. Hariprasad said the party would assess whether its government’s welfare programs and the Congress’ policy stances were effectively communicated to the electorate.

“The result does not weaken the ideological and people-oriented commitment of the Congress party, on the contrary, it increases our responsibility to more effectively shape our organizational functioning, public outreach and political strategies,” he said.
