Kakinada, East Godavari districts increase cyclone preparedness

Fishermen along the Kakinada coast have been advised to suspend fishing activities in view of heavy rains and strong winds expected from October 27 onwards. Those engaged in sea fishing have been asked to return to their respective fish landing centres.

Kakinada Joint Collector Apoorva Bharat directed the officials to defer their leave during the cyclone period and remain available to deal with the situation until further instructions. Officials from the revenue, civil supplies and fisheries departments have been asked to ensure adequate fuel stock at petrol stations and supply gas cylinders within two days. Control rooms have been set up in the Collectorate and all mandal headquarters and relief camps have been identified.

In East Godavari District, Collector Ch. Kirthi directed officials to identify low-lying areas, make arrangements for relief centers and alert traditional fishermen engaged in fishing in the Godavari river.

The heavy rains expected in the coming days are unlikely to affect the rice paddy crop as harvesting is scheduled to begin in late November.
