Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal on Friday (May 29, 2026) chaired a high-level review meeting in Panchkula to review the state’s law and order situation, crime control measures and the progress of the Haryana government’s drug-free campaign.
Saying that laxity in maintaining law and order at any level will not be tolerated, the DGP has warned that police officers whose performance and conduct fall short of acceptable standards will face action as per established rules and procedures, an official statement said.
The DGP also said that the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) would be formally constituted in June and directed the Additional Director General of Police (CID) and all district police officers to complete the assessment of the requirements and available resources within the stipulated time frame, according to the statement.
The drug-free campaign was also discussed. Additional Director General of Police, Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau, Sanjay Kumar said that comprehensive public awareness campaigns will soon be launched in all districts through a coordinated effort involving police, civic administration and civil society.
Mr. Kumar said that the increase in drug trade in the neighboring states has a direct and adverse impact on Haryana, hence the need to adopt a two-pronged strategy targeting both demand and supply. Officers have been instructed to respond immediately upon receiving any intelligence input regarding the sale or storage of drugs.
Mr. Kumar informed the meeting that in the last five years, action was taken against 3,062 accused in cases involving commercial quantities of drugs, while 153 persons were detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 2023.
