Telangana to unveil new Aerospace and Defense Policy 2.0 soon, says Revanth

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said Telangana aims to become the country’s largest industrial hub for the defense industry and has called on domestic and global companies to increase investment in defense manufacturing, aerospace, space technology, cyber security, artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology.

Addressing the curtain raiser for Raksha Expo-2026, he said the state has the necessary ecosystem, skilled human resources, research institutions and industrial capacity to play a leading role in strengthening India’s defense manufacturing sector.

The government will soon introduce its Aerospace and Defense Policy 2.0, in line with the Telangana Rising Vision 2047, he said.

Mr. Revanth Reddy said that Hyderabad occupied a strategic position in the Indian defense ecosystem, being home to several important research institutions and strategic installations associated with the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.

Although Telangana is the only landlocked state in South India, it continues to contribute significantly to the Indian Navy, he said, referring to the Naval Very Low Frequency (VLF) Radar Facility being built at Damagundam Reserve Forest in Vikarabad district.

He emphasized that India should move beyond importing technologies necessary for waging war and become a country capable of exporting advanced defense technologies. Strong defense capabilities were essential not only for waging wars but also for maintaining peace by deterring adversaries from starting conflicts, he said.

The Chief Minister said that Telangana has been striving to realize this vision but needs more participation from industry leaders and investors to achieve more ambitious goals. He urged the companies to double their investment plans in the state and assured them of the government’s cooperation in addressing their demands.

“Tell me what support you need from me to achieve this goal. I am ready to provide all necessary assistance,” he said, stressing that the government is committed to creating a favorable environment for investment.

No political paralysis

Stating that there was no political paralysis in Telangana, Mr. Revanth Reddy said political and ideological differences would not stand in the way of investment and development. The government had a clear approach and firm commitment to advance economic growth, he said, urging industry leaders to think big and explore opportunities across strategic sectors.

While the state accounted for more than 2.5% of India’s population and contributed about 5% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), he wanted Telangana’s share of the national economy to rise to 10% by 2047.

Defense manufacturing, aerospace and allied industries will play a key role in achieving this goal, he said.

The Chief Minister also invited investors to participate in the second annual Invest Telangana Global Summit to be held at Bharat Future City on December 7, 8 and 9.
