
The medical authorities will organize programs raising awareness and timely screening for chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) as well as the introduction of a service to detect hypertension and diabetes among workers in small business facilities in Tiruchi district this week as part of the nationwide initiative that integrates them into Makkalai Thedi Marutuvam.
According to the official press release, COPD programs will start 4 June under the supervision of the Nnon-Commumungedable Diseases section (NCD) with the support of the National Mission-Tamil Nadu.
COPD is a long -term lung disease causing persistent cough and breathless, especially in people exposed to smoke and dust. Symptoms include chronic cough for more than eight weeks, breathless during daily activity, wheezing or tightness of chest and sputum production. Smokers, biomass fuel users and people working in dusty environments are of a high risk of COPD.
The program will include the participation of all 84 primary health centers, including those under Tiruchi Corporation, which was mapped to their nearest Tercary Care Center and a functional spiritual facility (Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital).
Spirometry tests will be available for free in designated centers. Moon screening results would be reported to the NCD section.
On June 5, and the program to Screen 25,571 Workers in Nearly 878 Factories and Small Commercial Establishments for Hypertension and Diabetes Will Be Launched in Tiruchi District, Covering the Blocks of Lalgudi, Manappaai, Manachalur, Marungapuri, Musiri, Musiri, Thirurumbur, Thuraiyur, Thottiyam, And Tiruchi Corporation.
Companies with less than 1,000 employees were identified through the Directorate of Industrial Security and Health (DISH) for the program.
The initiative will be implemented through existing mobile medical units (MMUS) – regular and tribal – without deviation from the Fixed Tour Integration program in the workplace with routine field activities at the block level.
The aim of the program is to support early detection of hypertension and diabetes between workers and ensure early recommendations of suspicious/confirmed NCD cases to the nearest government medical facility for further management.
The program stated that the release was identified by more than 5 Lakh workers.
