Two minors, aged 16 and 17, were arrested for allegedly murdering their 13-year-old neighbor over a petty dispute about a month ago after his body was found in the Vibhutipura lake area on October 12.
The victim, Arafath, a Class 7 dropout, was allegedly attacked with stones following a confrontation near the lake on the evening of October 4, police said.
According to the police, the murder was allegedly started by an argument that broke out about a month ago after the two-wheeler was blocked. The dispute involved Arafat, his brother and one of the accused. The accused is said to have held a grudge against the boy and repeatedly fought with him after the incident.
On October 4, when Arafath was near the Vibhutipura lake, the two minors allegedly waited for him and confronted him. During the argument, the boy allegedly threatened to bring his older brother to beat them up and tried to run away.
Fearing the consequences, the duo allegedly chased him and pelted stones. Arafath collapsed after the attack. The accused then allegedly dropped a large stone on his face before fleeing, which killed him on the spot.
His body was subsequently found in the lake grounds on October 12, prompting police to investigate the murder and identify suspects.
Police said all three boys had dropped out of school.
