The Keralam Assembly session begins on 12 October 2026

Keralam State Legislative Assembly.

Amid a simmering political climate at the national and state levels, the Kerala Legislative Assembly will convene for a nine-day session from October 12, 20206, which is expected to witness a heated confrontation between the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) over a series of state conversations that have dominated political issues in recent weeks. weeks.

With the state police likely to register an FIR against Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan in the CMRL-Exalogic pay case on Monday (October 12, 2026), the ruling front is likely to raise the issue in the debates. The LDF is likely to target Chief Minister VD Satheesan for allegedly accepting free chartered air travel sponsored by “unknown benefactors” and using a government-hired helicopter for alleged private trips, amid allegations that he opened the door for the Kerala governor, who is also the chancellor of state-funded universities, to give the senate a leg up on the Rashtriysevaska Sangham (Sanghym RSpathsevaska Sangham).

Power crisis

The LDF will also try to bring the government to the dock over the ongoing power cuts, shortage of medicines in government hospitals, lack of Aravana in Sabarimala and allegedly slow preparations for the Sabarimala Mandalam-Makaravilakku season. The LDF is likely to object to the UDF government’s move to withdraw the Kerala State Private Universities Act 2025, which is currently being discussed by the President of India, and replace it with another law that seeks to open up the higher education sector to private investment and foreign partnerships.

However, both the ruling front and the opposition, barring three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, are likely to put aside their differences and vote unanimously for a resolution demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The chief minister is expected to move the resolution. Both the CPI(M) and the Congress leadership actively participated in the ongoing protests in the state capital demanding the removal of the CEC.

For nine days

The Assembly will meet for nine days from October 12 to October 29, 2026 with breaks in between. The approved schedule has two bills for consideration by the House – the Court Fees and Valuation of Suits (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Madras Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
