Chennai Super Kings are firmly anchored at the bottom of the table, it will certainly end for the first time in their Indian history Premier League. They were the poorest during the season. Yet the buzzing surrounding CSK matches remains unchanged, with packed stands throughout India, all thanks to Mrs. Dhoni.
Yes, Dhoni is no longer a man who puts his sixths effortlessly in the stalls. It does not have to be the same captain with “Midas Touch”. Yet, Dhoni, despite his complete presence, still attracts crowds and attracts attention.
When in February he arrived in Chennai in the pre -season camp on himself adapted to the T -shirt decorated with “once” in Morse code, many believed that the IPL 2025 would really be his last season.

However, when things happen for both Super Kings and their Thal, it remains uncertain whether the Sunday game in Ahmedabad will be Dhoni’s Swan. “By the way, it is also a venue where CSK won its fifth title IPL two years ago – a match that many felt should be Dhoni’s farewell to IPL.
Since the CSK was excluded from the play -off race this season, the question has been steadily followed by Dhoni and those representing Super Kings at press conferences.
Dhoni himself addressed it several times. Asked by Danny Morrison, Dhoni avoided the question. On another occasion, he was more honest and said he was not in a hurry to decide, waiting to see his body holding up in the next ten months before any calls about his future IPL.
The value of the Dhoni brand remains unadorned. However, his ability in the field clearly decreases. With a bat, Dhoni was rather a burden this year – scoring 196 runs in 13 matches at 135 strike, a significant decline in his stunning strokes of 220 in 2024. Although it underwent surgery, its unpleasant knee was a persistent problem during the season.
Dhoni rarely crossed his welcome. Yet it now seems that his presence in the XI can prevent super kings. On many occasions this season, Dhoni tried to produce typical eruptions of late games that once defined him.
Yet, the CSK camp firmly believes that Dhoni will know best when to call time for his iPL career. It would be a miracle if it returned to IPL 2026 and brings better performances, especially with a bat.
When CSK is preparing on Sunday to close its forgotten season against Gujaratian Titans in Ahmedabad, one thing seems almost certain: we can witness the last “captain” of Dhoni.
In addition to emotions, the competition at the Narendra Modi stadium has a significant importance for Gujarat Titans who need a strong comeback after and desperately Heavy defeat Lucknow Super Giants in their previous match.
Gujarat Titans is currently sitting at the top of the table with 18 points and winning the top two. On Sunday, however, the loss of CSK could see how they would slip out of these sought -after positions – a bitter wound for one of the most convenient pages of the season.
