Pakistan Super League clashes with IPL for third consecutive year as PCB confirms 2027 dates
The Pakistan Super League will overlap with the Indian Premier League for the third consecutive year after the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the dates for the 12th edition of the tournament on Thursday.
PSL 12 will be played from 18 March to 2 May 2027, with all eight franchises returning for a second season after the league expanded from six teams in 2026. The window was finalized following stakeholder consultation at the PSL Governing Council meeting in London on 1 September, attended by owners and representatives of all eight franchises.
The decision will once again place the PSL in the same part of the calendar as the IPL. The two competitions have already shared the March-May period in 2025 and 2026, creating competition for players, audiences, broadcast attention and commercial interest.

PSL vs IPL CLASH SET TO GO ON
The schedule overlap is particularly significant given the contrasting scale of the two leagues. The IPL remains the world’s largest T20 franchise competition by commercial reach, while the PSL continues to grow as Pakistan’s premier domestic cricket property.
In 2026, the PSL was held from 26 March to 3 May, while the IPL ran from 28 March to 31 May. Concurrent windows meant the two leagues competed for attention for much of the same period.
The PSL 2027 window is likely to trigger another extended overlap. Current IPL 2027 rosters have the tournament scheduled between March 10 and May 15, though the BCCI’s final schedule is yet to be confirmed.
However, for PSL, PCB enters the season with considerable momentum. The 2026 edition introduced an eight-team format and replaced the player draft with the league’s first-ever auction. Peshawar Zalmi won the title after defeating debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in the final as the decider at the Gaddafi Stadium attracted a record 32,461 spectators.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi believes the momentum can help the tournament take another step forward.
“HBL PSL 11 showed the world what this league is capable of – thrilling moments that stunned the entire nation, record crowds, record broadcasts. HBL PSL 12 will raise the bar even higher,” said Naqvi.
“We are determined to deliver another outstanding season and look forward to seeing all eight franchises compete for the title again,” he added.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer also pointed to the growth of competition and outlined the road ahead.
“Last season changed what people expect from this league and we intend to meet each of those expectations in 2027. Today’s announcement is just the first step, direct signings, retention, trade window and auction will bring their own excitement in the coming months,” Naseer said.
With the dates now locked in, the focus is on player retention, outright signings, trades and an auction before the eight franchises begin preparations for next season – one that will once again run alongside the IPL.
