Telangana Transport Minister scraps 60 EV buses, says TGSRTC merger process will begin after union elections

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar flagged off 60 electric buses at the Kukatpally depot of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) on Wednesday, adding more heavy vehicles to the existing fleet of EV buses.
Currently, out of TGSRTC’s 10,139 buses, 1,050 are electric buses, including 510 inter-city vehicles that ply within city limits. In Hyderabad, the corporation operates 540 EV buses, including 90 AC vehicles. The Minister of Transport said that another 2,200 electric buses will be introduced soon.
Responding to a request by Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Mr. Prabhakar said that a new warehouse would be set up at the Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB). He directed officials to take steps to establish it on more than five acres of land. The company officials have been asked to write to Housing Board officials on the matter.

The minister said that public transport services are being strengthened as per the needs of the new colonies in Hyderabad.
Merger of TGSRTC with Govt
On the long-pending demand of corporation employees to merge TGSRTC with the government, the transport minister said the process would be initiated. A committee consisting of representatives of recognized trade unions and officials will be formed. The merger process will begin after the elections to the recognized trade unions. According to him, the election process will also begin soon.
However, he said that some problems arose after the merger of APSRTC with the Andhra Pradesh government.

Talking more about the welfare measures of the employees, Mr. Ponnam said that the employees can lodge their grievances while the warehouse managers, regional managers and other officials will discuss the issues on the second Tuesday of every month.
