Heat wave eases briefly in Andhra Pradesh, severe conditions likely to return on May 28

Ongoing weather systems brought much-needed relief to large parts of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, May 27, after the state reeled under unrelenting temperatures above 45°C for nearly a week.

For the first time in more than a week, the maximum temperature remained below 44°C in the state. The highest temperature of the day was 41.8 °C, recorded at Salur in Parvathipuram Manyam district. Since May 18, Andhra Pradesh has consistently recorded maximum temperatures above 44 °C.

The highest temperatures recorded in the last week were 44.3 °C on 18 May, 45.6 °C on 19 May, 47.6 °C on 20 May, 48.1 °C on 21 May, 44.8 °C on 22 May, 45.8 °C on 23 May, 48.3 °C, 24.3 °C and 48.3 °C in May 47.7°C on May 26.

On Wednesday, barring Srikakulam district and Parvathipuram Manyam district, the rest of the state did not experience heatwave or severe heatwave. In Srikakulam district, two mandals experienced severe heat waves and 11 others reported heat conditions. In Parvathipuram Manyam district, one mandal experienced severe heat wave while two others experienced scorching conditions.

However, the respite is expected to be temporary. India Meteorological Department (IMD) and AP State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) warned that in more than 100 mandals of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Polavaram, Kakinada, Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema, Gudari East District, El Kristur, East Godavari, N. Godavari District, West Godavari are likely to experience severe heat waves. Thursday. Similar conditions are likely to continue on Friday.

According to the IMD, there is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures during the next three days, after which temperatures may gradually drop by 2°C to 3°C.

Meanwhile, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are likely to occur over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Thursday and Friday, the IMD said. A trough extending from north Bihar to south Telangana through Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh is influencing the weather activity, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation persisting over the north coast of Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. Another upper air cyclonic circulation persists over east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal.
