Sagardighi MLA Bayron Biswas suffered burns following a fire at a residence in West Bengal

Murshidabad District Constituency MLA Sagardighi Bayron Biswas suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at his house in Samserganj on Saturday (October 3, 2026).
He was initially admitted to a local nursing home and may be shifted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital for better treatment. Family members also said that he may be shifted to a hospital in Kolkata if required.
According to local sources, Mr. Biswas is currently in a stable condition and is undergoing treatment and has suffered about 30% burns. Supposedly. His wife also sustained injuries in the fire while trying to save him.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and tried to extinguish the fire. However, officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire. The fire broke out around 11:00 a.m., according to locals present in the area.
Bishnupada Roy, the senior officer of the Dhuliyan fire station, said on Saturday (October 3, 2026) afternoon: “Three units of firefighters brought the fire under control within an hour. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.”
Mr. Biswas is one of the MLAs in the Trinamool Democratic Congress who defected from Mamata Banerjee’s faction after the 2026 assembly elections and formed his own camp under the leadership of Ritabrat Banerjee. In 2023, he won from the Sagardighi seat on a Congress ticket but later shifted to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari wished him a speedy recovery. “I have heard about it and I will get the details of the matter,” Mr Adhikari told reporters.
“Deeply disturbed and saddened by the news of my friend and colleague Bayron Biswas. I wish him a speedy recovery. Get well soon brother,” Mr. Ritabrata Banerjee wrote on social media in response to the accident.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said Mr. Biswas was like his brother even though they are in different political parties and wished him a speedy recovery.
“This needs to be investigated as the fire took place against the background of his checkered political career,” West Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar said.
