Elderly woman’s land restored after personation, false deed of gift

An elderly woman’s land, allegedly grabbed through impersonation and a bogus gift deed, has been restored in her name following the Karnataka Lokayukta’s intervention.

An 84-year-old woman, Bharathi Lakshman Reddy, approached the Lokayukta after she found that her property had been transferred to another person using a forged gift deed.

The properties are located at Chikkatattamangala village in Devanahalli taluk. A bogus gift deed was allegedly registered at the Hoskote sub-registrar’s office on August 13, 2025, transferring the properties in the name of Shravan Kumar, son of Lakshman Reddy.

Following the complaint, the Lokayukta initiated an inquiry and directed the officials concerned to take action. The police subsequently arrested Lakshmi Devamma, who was allegedly impersonating Bharathi Lakshman Reddy, and Shravan Kumar, the alleged recipient of the gift deed. A charge sheet was also filed before the Lokayukta.

The revenue authorities acting on the proceedings restored the name of Bharathi Lakshmana Reddy as proprietor and khatedar in the revenue records of 2026-27. Deputy Commissioner Doddaballapur issued an order in this regard on 12 August 2026.

The Lokayukta also took note of similar cases where senior citizens were allegedly targeted for fraudulent property documents and directed senior officials of the registration and revenue departments to report for preventive and punitive measures.

The next hearing in the case was set for November 25, 2026.
