Konaseema Railway Sadhana Samithi (KRSS) convener ER Subramanyam and its management committee members, including MLC Kudupudi Suryanarayan, on Saturday appealed to Amalapuram MP G. Harish Balayogi to speed up the ongoing acquisition of land for the Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line in Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema.
On 1 October, the Ministry of Transport, Roads and Buildings issued GORT 575 pursuant to an administrative sanction of ₹100 million to expedite the railway project, with the state government committing to contribute 25% of the total cost of the project. The project is being implemented by South Coast Railway.
Mr Subramanyam, Mr Suryanarayana and KRSS management committee members Polisetti Sivaji, Vankayala Raja, Eragarth Venkateswara Rao and GVS Krishna Rao met Mr Harish Balayogi on Saturday and thanked him for his efforts in securing administrative sanction.
The KRSS, made up of representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, academics and lawyers, has been working on the railway project since its foundation stone was laid in 2001.
Responding to KRSS’s appeal, Mr. Harish Balayogi said that the district officials Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema were urged to proceed with land acquisition. He said the roadblocks to the new alignment have also been cleared.
“The Kotipalli-Narsapur rail line project will revert to its original status with immediate effect,” he said.
Ahead of the 2024 general elections, Harish Balayogi had promised to complete the Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line proposed by his father and former Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi.
Mr. Harish Balayogi and KRSS representatives thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan for their support.
