Panchami Gramam project to bring infrastructure to small SC settlements
SC, ST and Backward Classes Welfare Minister KA Thulasi will inaugurate the Panchami Gramam project, which aims to bring infrastructure to small SC settlements, at a function held at Kongad, Palakkad, on Saturday.
The Kerala government on Saturday launched the Panchami Gramam project to improve basic infrastructure in hamlets with less than 15 Scheduled Caste families. SC/ST and Backward Welfare Minister KA Thulasi inaugurated the project as part of the government’s 100-day action program at Kongad not far from here.
She said the scheme was designed to address the gap left by the Ambedkar project, which covers larger estates with more than 100 houses.
Panchami Gramam will fund development works worth up to ₹40,000 crore in areas such as basic infrastructure and housing. A maximum of two projects will be launched in each assembly constituency during a financial year. Munikkunnu and Kakkattuparamba SC settlements in Kongad constituency have been selected as pilot projects.
Ms. Thulasi said that the SC Development department would directly undertake the construction of houses for Scheduled Caste families. In the first phase, 10,000 applications will be accepted, with the housing benefit amount revised from time to time.
Kongad grama panchayat member CN Sivadasan presided over the function. MP VK Sreekandan was the chief guest. Other speakers were Mundur grama panchayat member Kaja Hussain, Deputy Director of SC Department KK Shaju and SC District Development Officer G. Sreekumar.
