Graduates must go beyond earning degrees and develop the ability to create future technologies, adapt to rapid changes and promote human values, said P. Nagabhushan, former director, IIIT Allahabad.

Addressing the third graduation ceremony at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering here on Saturday, he said that passing exams and getting a degree is necessary but not sufficient to become a competent engineer, technocrat and responsible human being. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and data engineering.

While he encouraged graduates to pursue graduate studies, he advised those with family responsibilities to prioritize financial stability. Mr. Nagabhushan warned the students not to become too dependent on social recognition and outward appearance. He urged them to remain authentic and said that individuals should avoid living behind a “social mask” shaped by the expectations of others.

Emphasizing the responsible use of artificial intelligence, he said the technology should enhance human intelligence and creativity rather than replace independent thinking. He urged the graduates to maintain their individuality, emotional intelligence, integrity and ethical values.

He warned against being too busy, which could prevent individuals from thinking strategically and pursuing meaningful goals.

Emphasizing simplicity, politeness and lawful behavior, he explained the word “SIMPLE” as strategic approach, integrated intelligence, advanced movements, politeness, law-abiding behavior and elegance. He urged the graduates to combine their technological knowledge with creativity, compassion and integrity to make meaningful contributions to society and the nation.
