Devotees traveled from Shegaon in Buldhana district to Wardha with the idol of Goddess Durga. According to police, two other people are in critical condition. The devotees were members of the Durga Puja Committee who were bringing the idol for installation in Wardha before the Navratri festival.
“According to preliminary information, a truck rammed into Bolero from behind, throwing several commuters onto the road. Five people died on the spot,” said an Amravati police official. An investigation is underway.
The injured were taken to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital.
